Luca Cardinali decides to channel his passion into the study and design of reeds, interpreting the different demands of many musicians met over the years and giving life to the new Cardinali reeds. Made for both classical and modern sounds and jazz.
Manufacture
The workmanship The Cardinal reeds are produced in France under the supervision of Luca Cardinali who for each type of reed personally takes care of making a sampling of reeds to be tested. Based on the density and flexibility characteristics of the batch of cane being processed, Luca determines the calibration of the cutting machines, in order to obtain, as much as possible, reeds with the same dynamic and timbre characteristics required for the type of cut being produced. . This work is fundamental for the good final result as the raw material variable can determine important differences in the reeds even if the processing is performed perfectly. The reed used grows in the Var region, in the south of France, considered by all to be the best raw material in the world. Characteristic of this region is the absolutely unique microclimate, which gives the plant - and consequently the finished reed - unparalleled tone characteristics and flexibility. Luca Cardinali has tried to interpret the needs of many musicians met over the years by designing reeds that can satisfy the most diverse requests. The Filed Line and the Unfiled Line were born, different in structure and shape.
The FILED cut has a tapered blade with less accentuated taper than the heel, a back that gradually decreases towards the toe to obtain a centered, solid sound, very precise in the attacks and in the beaten notes.
The UNFILED cut with the taper of the headstock with respect to the heel more accentuated (more fan-shaped) and a shorter progression of the back, giving greater emphasis to the harmonics in the medium-severe register.
Two different cuts so as to give different timbre responses and suitable for performers who engage in various musical genres. The reeds are then rechecked and selected by hand in Italy inserted in a single reed holder and packaged one by one in a flow pack made with double PP film, a technique deriving from the food sector, fundamental for the correct conservation of the product. The double film used prevents external humidity from changing the hydration level of the barrel as well as acting as a barrier to light preventing oxidation.
